Jamie Burnett (born September 16, 1975 ) is a retired professional snooker player from Hamilton , Scotland .

Career

His greatest successes in tournaments on the Snooker Main Tour were reaching the finals at the Shanghai Masters 2010 and the quarter-finals at the German Open 1997 and the Grand Prix the following year.

He gained great fame during the qualifying rounds for the UK Championship 2004 in the second round against Leo Fernandez , when he became the first player to ever break a 148 in a professional match. Usually 147 is the highest score that can be scored on a break , also known as the maximum break . Burnett managed a 148 series, however, because he came to the table after a foul by Fernandez and received a freeball , through which one can theoretically score up to 155 points in one break.

Burnett chose the brown ball as a substitute red, then punched the brown ball again and finally all 15 red balls with one blue, two pink and twelve black balls. Then he completed the historic 148 break by punching the colors. Due to the fact that this break came about in the qualifying rounds, Burnett did not receive a bonus for the highest break, as is usual in tournaments.

In qualifying for the 2007 Grand Prix , Jamie Burnett finally managed a “regular” maximum break of 147 points.

The Scot had his greatest career success at the 2010 Shanghai Masters . After surviving two qualifying rounds and the wildcard round, he benefited from the cancellation of world number two Ronnie O'Sullivan and moved straight into round 2. Then he prevailed against three better placed players in the ranking and won convincingly against Andrew Higginson 5-0 and Jamie Cope 6-1. Only in the final did he have to admit defeat to Ali Carter 7:10.

He has not contested a ranking tournament since July 2016 and no longer takes part in the Main Tour.
