Michael Holt (born August 7, 1978 ) is an English snooker player.

Career

Holt started playing snooker when he was 12 or 13 years old , wanting to emulate his favorite player, Steve Davis . In 1996 he became a professional snooker. His greatest successes so far on the Snooker Main Tour he achieved in 1999 at the UK Championship and in 2003 and 2005 at the Grand Prix , where he advanced to the quarter-finals. His highest break to date of 144 points was in 2005.

At the German Open , which was not part of the Main Tour at the time , he finished second in Fürth in October 2005 , and only had to admit defeat to Mark King in the final. A year later he secured the title there with a 4-2 final win over Barry Hawkins .

At the Prague Classic 2010 he won his first minor world ranking tournament. He defeated John Higgins 4-3 in the final. At the 10th PTC Event 2011/12 , Holt won his second minor ranking title.

At the Riga Masters 2016 , which emerged from a minor tournament, he reached the final of a full ranking tournament for the first time, but then lost to Neil Robertson . In 2020 he reached the final of a ranking tournament again at the snooker shoot-out and this time won his first title against Zhou Yuelong .

Personal

Michael Holt occasionally attracts attention in his games with emotional outbursts. Holt, who enjoys fitness training , is a hobby cook and avowed football fan, his favorite team is Nottingham Forest . He is also based in the city of Nottingham . He has been married since June 2017 and has a son since March 2018.

Holt achieved notoriety when he did not want to give up the second frame at the score of 1:95 in the game against Ronnie O'Sullivan at the Aberdeen Grand Prix in 2006. O'Sullivan then played wrong suits until Holt finally gave up at 95:30.
