Gwen Renée Stefani [ ˈgwɛn stəˈfɑːni ] (born October 3, 1969 in Fullerton , California ) is an American singer , songwriter , designer and actress . The front woman of the US rock band No Doubt was awarded a Grammy in 2002, has released four solo albums to date and - including her work with No Doubt - has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Life

Gwen Stefani was born in Fullerton , California , and grew up in Anaheim, California . Her mother, Patti Flynn, is of Scottish - Irish descent and a former accountant , her father, Dennis Stefani, is Italian - American and worked at Yamaha as a marketing manager . She has a younger brother, sister, and older brother named Eric Stefani . She met Gavin Rossdale in 1995 and married him in September 2002 at ceremonies in London and Los Angeles . In August 2015, the two announced their separation. The marriage was divorced in April 2016. The marriage with Rossdale resulted in three sons (* 2006, * 2008 and * 2014). In November 2015, she made her relationship with Blake Shelton public.

Stefani became known as the band leader of the group No Doubt , which was able to secure worldwide attention in 1996 with the release of their third album Tragic Kingdom and the accompanying single Don't Speak . She had already taken on the role of the front woman in 1988 after the suicide of the band's founder John Spence. Other hits were Just a Girl (1996), the joint project Hey Baby with Bounty Killer (2001) and It's My Life (2003). In 2011 the band reunited to work on the new album Push and Shove (2012).

In parallel to her projects as a member of No Doubt, Stefani began to establish herself as a solo interpreter in the late 1990s. Among other things, she could be heard as the lead voice on Moby's single South Side .

In mid-2001 Stefani achieved another global chart success with the rapper Eve with the single Let Me Blow Ya Mind ; this took first place in the Austrian hit lists and brought both artists a Grammy in 2002 in the category of best rap / vocal collaboration .

After two years of production, Love followed in autumn 2004 . Fishing rod. Music. Infant. finally Stefani's solo debut . The album became a worldwide bestseller and was able to sell around 300,000 copies within its release week in the USA alone than an album by No Doubt in its release week before. The CD has now sold seven million times. It was the twelfth best-selling album in 2005.

In total, the record produced six single releases. Alongside Australian number one hit What You Waiting For? and that of Dr. Dre produced the song Rich Girl - in renewed collaboration with colleague Eve - Stefani achieved an outstanding success , especially with the Neptunes production Hollaback Girl in the summer of 2005. At the 2005 Grammy Awards , Stefani was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ; at the award ceremony the following year it was nominated five times, including in the categories Record of the Year and Album of the Year .

Plans for the release of the album LAMB Part II in the first quarter of 2006 have been put on hold due to Stefan's first pregnancy . The record should include both unreleased songs from her recordings for Love. Fishing rod. Music. Infant. as well as new productions by Neptunes, Rich Harrison and by No Doubt colleague Tony Kanal. Most of the songs are now on their second solo album The Sweet Escape , released in December 2006 . The two singles Wind It Up and The Sweet Escape were subsequently released.

In June 2007 the third single 4 in the Morning was released . The fourth single Now That You Got It was released in autumn 2007 in the USA, Canada , Australia and Germany . The Sweet Escape album has now sold around three million copies, of which more than a million are in the United States.

In June 2011 Stefani announced the end of her solo career in an interview with Entertainment Weekly . In late 2014, however, she released the comeback singles Baby don't lie and Spark the Fire . Her third studio album This Is What the Truth Feels Like was released in March 2016. With Used to Love You - the first single from this album - she celebrated the end of her 13-year relationship with Rossdale in October 2015.

  • On April 21, 2007 Stefani started her second solo tour, which was called The Sweet Escape Tour . She was on tour for twelve months and gave concerts on five continents.
  • On November 24th, 2008 Stefani affirmed the plans that No Doubt would go on tour with her again: On her website she explained in a virtual conversation with her bandmates that “they should finally get started again. We shouldn't wait any longer. "
