No Doubt [ ˌnoʊ ˈdaʊt ] ( English for no doubt ) is an American rock band with Ska , Punk and New Wave influences.

history

The band was founded in 1986 in Anaheim , Orange County ( California ), by singer John Spence, Eric Stefani and his sister Gwen Stefani as a Madness association. After Spence's suicide, Alan Meade took over the lead vocals in 1988, and Gwen Stefani soon after. She had been the backing vocalist for No Doubt since the band started . The ballad Dear John is dedicated to the late founder of the band. In 1994/95 Gwen Stefani's brother Eric also left the band because he was no longer satisfied with the musical path they had chosen . Since then he has been an illustrator for the animated series The Simpsons .

At first No Doubt was a ska - band and celebrated mainly in her home state of California successes. They became known to the outside audience as the opening act for the British band Bush . Her first video was Trapped in a Box from the debut album No Doubt in 1992 .

Later came the stylistic change to a mixture of Ska, Pop and New Wave. Not least because of the increasing popularity of the Newpunk, their album Tragic Kingdom (1995) became a great international success and stayed at number one on the Billboard charts for weeks. The released single Don't Speak sold around seven million copies worldwide, Just A Girl achieved a similarly high level of popularity.

The following albums Return of Saturn (2000) and Rock Steady (2001) were also successful in the German charts, but were unable to match the high international sales of Tragic Kingdom .

At the end of 2003, the first greatest hits album The Singles 1992-2003 came on the market. In the meantime, No Doubt was on tour with bands like U2 , Kiss , blink-182 and Sublime and had played around 650 concerts.

So far they have sold about 24.5 million records, of which about 15 million are on the album Tragic Kingdom .

On June 11, 2012, No Doubt announced on their official website that the new album entitled Push and Shove will be released on September 25, 2012, in Germany this was already done on September 21. Previously, on July 16, 2012, the first single Settle Down was released on the US market, which was released in Germany on August 3, 2012.
