history

TMF Nederland

TMF Nederland started on May 1, 1995 under the direction of Lex Harding, as well as Herman Brakman, Ewart van der Horst and the multimedia company Arcade. Up to this point there was no own Dutch music television. In most cities and towns, only the English language MTV Europe could be received. In the beginning, the station had only a low level of awareness, but that changed quickly.

The first music clip on TMF Nederland was Too Much Love Will Kill You by Brian May .

In the first few months TMF broadcast as TMF6 and had to share the broadcasting slot with TV10 Gold in many cable networks . TMF initially broadcast eight hours a day, from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. During the rest of the broadcast time, trailers were used to refer to the programs.

In autumn 1995 the plans to convert TV10 Gold into TV10 were implemented. This gave TMF its own new slot. At the same time, the broadcasters SBS 6 and Veronica started , both of which had a claim to channel 6. SBS 6 won this dispute, TMF replaced the 6 with a 9 ( TMF6 to TMF9 ).

After the takeover by MTV, the 9 disappeared from the TMF logo. Although the 9 was later part of the logo again, the official name was still TMF .

From 2008 the success of the station steadily decreased. From January 1, 2011 to April 4, 2011, the broadcast only ran from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

From February 14, 2011 to April 4, 2011, Comedy Central Nederland broadcast with TMF on this program slot from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Then the new children's channel Kindernet took up the frequencies from TMF, which has since been discontinued itself. The spread and future of TMF Nederland has long been unclear. At Nickelodeon Nederland since 14 February 2011 sends from 21.00 pm, the evening rail TeenNick . The station had been discontinued, the digital channels followed this example on December 31, 2011. The reasons for this are the insufficient advertising income and the lack of interest among young people.

TMF Nederland moderators

Moderators such as Sylvana Simons, Bridget Maasland, Isabelle Brinkman, Fabienne de Vries, Ruud de Wild, Michael Pilarczyk, Wessel van Diepen and Erik de Zwart gave the station an image and a higher profile among young people. A little later, Tooske Breugem , Daphne Bunskoek, Mental Theo , Jeroen Post, Sonja Silva and Renée Vervoorn came to the station. In 2002, many video jockeys (VJ) left the station and switched their programs to the Dutch-language MTV, which has now emerged. Only the two moderators Jeroen Post and Renée Vervoorn remained. But only a short time later this also left the station. After a while, however, old VJs like Mental Theo and Jeroen Nieuwenhuize came back to the station. In addition, there was also female reinforcement with Sylvie Meis . For the TMF Awards 2004 one started an action under the title Vote the VJ , whereby one brought new moderators for the station. In 2004 Renate Verbaan was elected TMF's new VJ. Shortly thereafter, Sylvie Meis left and was replaced by Miljuschka Witzenhausen . During the TMF Awards 2005 the two well-known presenters Jeroen Post and Mental Theo also left the station. In the following years, new moderators such as Nikkie Plessen, Valerio Zeno, Sascha Visser, Saar Koningsberger, Damien Hope, Soumia Abalhaya and Amir Charles came to TMF. However, Miljuschka Witzenhausen and the new presenter Damian Hope left the station a little later.

However, these channels could only be received via various Dutch cable networks. TMF Dance was also broadcast in Flanders.

From 1996 TMF Nederland organized the TMF Awards annually . These were among the most important music awards in the Netherlands. The audience decided who would win the prize in the respective category by voting.

TMF Game Awards

In 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 there was also the TMF Game Awards . Among other things, the best games and best game consoles were chosen here. It is not known why there were no TMF Game Awards in 2007.
