MTV Dance is a digital pay-TV - music channel from Great Britain with an initial focus on electronic dance music of all genres such as House , Trance , Trip-Hop , Rave and Dubstep . Nowadays, MTV Dance's program consists mainly of mainstream music videos and also regularly brings clips like those on the specialty channel MTV Hits . In the “Dance Classics” clip series, MTV Dance also occasionally shows older music videos from the 2000s, occasionally from the 1990s. The channel was renamed Club MTV on June 1, 2020.

program

First there was a dance track on MTV Extra (now MTV Hits ) from 1999 to 2001 . On April 20, 2001, MTV Dance was switched on as an independent broadcaster from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on the frequency of the Nick Jr. children's program , before it had expanded its broadcasting time on August 13, 2002 to 24 hours a day.

MTV Dance mainly broadcasts the latest music videos from the genres house, drum & bass, dubstep and trance . Occasionally they also broadcast concert recordings from major events in Great Britain or well-known music videos from the 1990s. The station broadcast a teleshopping route from 04:00 to 07:00 , until the British version of MTV Dance via Astra 19.2 ° was replaced by an advertising-free version, as was the case with Viacom's other pay-TV channels. In addition, the 3–5 minute MTV News is broadcast on the hour in the morning and evening.

Despite its content focus on Great Britain (British commercials and program information on purely British MTV sister programs are shown), the station is marketed throughout Europe; in Germany since March 7, 2008 via the MTV Unlimited package from Technisat. Previously, the pan-European version of the urban contemporary music channel MTV Base was broadcast on the program slot .

MTV Dance Europe

Since the end of May 2014, a European version of MTV Dance has been distributed in many European countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The main difference between the station and its British sister station is that it eliminates teleshopping and advertising, but also eliminates any moderated clip series.

In the European version, the broadcaster continuously plays current music from the dance genre, occasionally also pop.

In Germany, MTV Dance Europe is also available as a stream in the MTV Play app with a premium subscription.

On April 5, 2017, MTV changed the color of the logo for MTV Dance Europe as well as for the UK version

MTV Dance has not been part of MTV Play and its app in Germany since March 1, 2018.

From September 30, 2019, the distribution of MTV Dance Europe via Astra 19.2 ° East will be discontinued. The affected broadcaster MTV Dance Europe will switch from the Astra satellite system to the Thor 0.8 ° West satellite, which belongs to the Norwegian satellite operator Telenor. In this context, the provider Technisat announced that it would also discontinue its previous "MTV Unlimited" package, which also includes MTV Dance Europe, on September 30, 2019.

Alternatively, MTV Dance Europe could still be received as a stream in Germany via Diveo. However, on November 30, 2019, Diveo also ceased operations, so that the MTV Dance station can no longer be received there.

Renamed Club MTV

New logo after renaming

ViacomCBS announced that it will rename MTV Dance to Club MTV throughout Europe and outside the UK market as of June 1, 2020. Both the station logo and the waistbands (display of the music titles) have been changed to blue or neo. The European version of Club MTV is still broadcast outside of Great Britain without moderation or advertising and shows music clips of the relevant genre for 24 hours.
