Paramount Comedy is a private television station and a subsidiary of Viacom , which is now only represented in Russia. The main focus of the station group is on entertainment. There were other international versions, which were gradually renamed Comedy Central .

Paramount Comedy Germany

Viacom reportedly wanted the music channel VIVA Plus on January 15 convert 2007 Paramount Comedy. However, the decision was made for Comedy Central , which was previously only operated in the USA and Poland.

Paramount Comedy UK & Ireland

Paramount Comedy was broadcast on pay television and mostly featured archive material; TV series make up the majority of the program.

Paramount Comedy 1

In England, the station started on November 1, 1995 under the name The Paramount Channel and broadcast as a program block on Nickelodeon UK . In the beginning, the program consisted of both comedy and drama programs, and films from Paramount Pictures were also shown .

On September 1, 1997, the station was renamed Paramount Comedy Channel and from now on focused only on comedy series.

As a result of the expansion of British Sky Broadcasting , the station became independent and was henceforth to be seen 24 hours a day.

On July 1, 2002, the name was changed to Paramount Comedy , with Paramount Comedy 2 being broadcast, the name was changed to Paramount Comedy 1 .

On April 6, 2009 the station became Comedy Central UK & Ireland .

Paramount Comedy 2

The station started in England on September 1, 2003. For the time being, the station was a TimeShift version of Paramount Comedy 1 . In 2004 the old program structure was taken over by Paramount Comedy 1 .

On April 6, 2009 at 9:00 p.m., the station was renamed Comedy Central Extra .

Paramount Comedy 1 +1, Paramount Comedy 2 +1

After Paramount Comedy 2 broadcast its own program, a +1 version of Paramount Comedy 1 was started in 2004 . There the station's program ran an hour later.

On November 5, 2007 a +1 version of Paramount Comedy 2 started .

The TimeShift versions were also renamed Comedy Central +1 and Comedy Central Extra +1 on April 6, 2009 .

Situation in Ireland

While Paramount Comedy 1 also aired in Ireland from May 9, 2004, but with Irish overlays, there was never an Irish version of Paramount Comedy 2 . In addition to Comedy Central, there is also an Irish version of Comedy Central +1 , Comedy Central Extra and Comedy Central Extra +1 can still only be received in Great Britain.

Paramount Comedy Italia

Until 2007 , Paramount Comedy existed on a shared frequency with sister station Nickelodeon from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am. On May 1, 2007, the station was then replaced by Comedy Central.

Paramount Comedy España

In Spain there was an offshoot of Paramount Comedy until May 14, 2014. Since then it has also been broadcast as Comedy Central .

Paramount Comedy Russia

Paramount Comedy has been broadcasting in Russia since April 1, 2012. Since May 14, 2014, the station has been Viacom's only comedy offshoot to broadcast as Paramount Comedy. The transmitter broadcasts 24 hours a day. It is not known why the decision was made against Comedy Central as a name.
