Bellator Fighting Championships

Bellator Fighting Championships (also Bellator FC or Bellator ) is a mixed martial arts organization based in the United States . The word bellator is the Latin term for fighter . Bellator organizes its competitions in the form of elimination tournaments. Each event represents one round of an elimination tournament. Four weight classes fight for advancement in each tournament. The winner of the tournament fights for the right to challenge the champion of the promotion. The managing directors are Bjorn Rebney and Brad Epstein .

The fights will be broadcast at ESPN Deportes . Since season 2, the program has also been broadcast on NBC , Fox Sports Net , Telemundo , Mun2 and The Score . Bellator boss Rebney said he would also like to bring the event to pay TV . Since the eighth season of the tournament, Bellator events have been broadcast by Russia-2 on Russian state television.

Bellator fights according to the Unified Rules .

Modified rules apply to tournament fights. The use of elbows is prohibited until the final. This is to prevent cut injuries. The tournaments are usually held within three months and such injuries would delay the process. Elbows are allowed in the tournament finals, championships and normal individual fights.

Weight classes

The following weight classes are represented in the organization:

  • Bantam weight: 58 to 61 kg
  • Feather weight: 62 - 66 kg
  • Lightweight: 67 - 70 kg
  • Welter weight: 71 - 77 kg
  • Average weight: 78 - 84 kg
  • Lightweight: 85 - 93 kg
  • Heavy weight: 94 - 120 kg

In the summer of 2013, Bellator withdrew entirely from women's MMA. The contracts of the last remaining fighters Jessica Eye, Jessica Aguilar and Felice Herrig have been terminated.
