Nickelodeon Movies is an American motion picture production company and has been a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures since 2006 .
history
Originally founded in 1995 as part of Nickelodeon , the company was initially to produce motion pictures related to Nickelodeon series for the television network . At first, cinema films were produced for existing television series, later films were also made for which television series only emerged after success (e.g. Jimmy Neutron , Barnyard ). Other adaptations and independent projects have also been realized, with most of the films being children's films .
To date, Nickelodeon Movies has not produced any film independently; Paramount Pictures was also involved as a producer or distributor in most of the projects. As part of the restructuring of parent company Viacom in 2005/2006, Nickelodeon Movies - just like MTV Films - became part of the Paramount Motion Pictures Group in August 2006 .
Especially from 2004 and the appearance of the SpongeBob SquarePants movie , Nickelodeon Movies was able to achieve some major box office hits. Rango received the Oscar in 2012 for the best animated feature film , which has always been won by Disney or Dreamworks productions in the following years. In the same year, The Adventures of Tintin became the first non-Pixar film to win the Golden Globe for best animated film . The success of these films led to the decision to found Paramount Animation's own animation studio. In cooperation with Nickelodeon Movies, it released its first film in 2015 with SpongeBob SquarePants 2 ; followed by the films Monster Trucks and Willkommen im Wunder Park . In addition, a real- life version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released in 2014 , and a sequel was released in 2016.
