action

SpongeBob is awaiting promotion to manager of Krusty Krab 2 , a branch of Mr. Krabs' popular restaurant. To his disappointment, however, it was not he who was promoted, but his colleague Thaddäus Tentakel. Mr. Krabs explains to the destroyed sponge that he is too childish and has too little sense of responsibility .

The villain Plankton, however, has a plan - as in several episodes of the series - not only to get the secret Krabby Patty formula , but also to usurp world domination. For this he steals the crown from Neptune , the ruler of the seas, and blames Mr. Krabs for the deed with a fictitious letter. Neptune looks for Mr. Krabs in Krusty Krab 2. Princess Mindy, the daughter of Neptune, can stop her father at the last second to "cremate" Mr. Krabs. SpongeBob, who had taken over the partying with Patrick the night before, enters Krusty Krab 2. and negotiates with Neptune: He agrees to spare Mr. Krabs as long as SpongeBob brings the crown back within six days.

Neptune keeps Mr. Krabs as a deposit and freezes it. Meanwhile, Plankton steals the secret recipe of the krabby patties that he produces and sells in his shop. He also distributes garbage can helmets with which he can control people's brains and enslaved them.

Patrick and SpongeBob go on an adventure trip, but have to realize again and again that both behave like children. They are also followed by the thug Dennis , who Plankton hired to stop them. Numerous creepy sea creatures stand in the way of the two. Often luck saves them, but ultimately their friendship from greatest danger.

After finding Neptune's crown, SpongeBob and Patrick, with the help of the lifeguard Hasselhoff, can hand it over to Neptune shortly before the deadline expires. But Plankton still has an ace up its sleeve and Neptune gets one of the garbage can helmets on. Plankton orders Neptune, his daughter Mindy, and SpongeBob and Patrick to burn, but beforehand he mocks and insults SpongeBob. SpongeBob sings loudly the "Taube Nüsschen song" and turns into a wizard. Blue rays shoot out of SpongeBob's guitar, destroying the garbage can helmets. All of Bikini Bottom is freed from SpongeBob. Plankton is arrested, Neptune apologizes to Mr. Krabs and praises SpongeBob. As a reward for saving Mr. Krabs, SpongeBob is promoted to manager of Krusty Krab 2 .

B. instead of the refrain "I wanna rock (rock) - I want to rock (rock) - I wanna rock (rock)" in the SpongeBob version always "I am a deaf nut (rock) - you are a deaf nut ( Rock) - We are all deaf nuts (rock) ”sung.

Reviews

“The entertaining cartoon sends the childish-childish cartoon heroes on a search for true masculinity, but at the end it stirs up praise for relaxed exuberance. Dramaturgically and in terms of content sometimes a bit bumpy, but animated with a lot of love for detail. "

“[...] Children and kids get wet with laughter. Conclusion: After "Finding Nemo" a new colorful milestone in the surreal underwater film. "

Awards

  • Nomination for the 32nd Annie Award of the International Animated Film Society, category Best Picture.
