Thomas Petruo
Thomas Paul Karl Petruo (born October 10, 1956 in West Berlin ; † April 13, 2018 in Berlin-Neukölln ) was a German radio host , actor , voice actor , and radio play and audio book speaker .
Life
Petruo's mother was a well-known stage actress; she did not play the theater until Petruo was 14, because she wanted to look after her children. Petruo herself worked at the theater as an assistant for the direction or props. When the family lived in Berlin again, Petruo went to drama school because he was enthusiastic about the activity of his father, Heinz Petruo , who was an actor and voice actor. Since 1983 he has worked as a stage lighting designer for theater stages.
Activities as a speaker
Petruo was in the dubbing studio for the first time in 1962. Together with his father, he moderated the RIAS 2 meeting point and dubbed more than 1000 films and series, including the role of Biff Tannen in the film trilogy Back to the Future , Nick Van Owen in Forgotten World: Jurassic Park and Sheldon J. Plankton in the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants . Together with Manuel Vaessen , he dubbed the actor James Read in the role of George Hazard in the series Torches in the Storm , his father was the dubbing director. Petruo has often been cast on well-known singers; so he dubbed Steven Tyler (guest appearances in Two and a Half Men ), Mick Jagger ( The Rutles and Freejack - hostage of the future ) or Alice Cooper in some commercials twice . One of his best known works is from 1994 when he lent his voice to Gary Oldman in Léon - The Professional .
He also dubbed cadet Kyle Blankes in Police Academy and waiter Robbie Gold in Dirty Dancing . He also spoke in some anime, among others in the movies to Detective Conan the role of Yusaku Kudō or Garlic Jr. in the anime series Dragon Ball Z .
He was often heard in advertising, for example for the Playstation 3 brand . As a radio play and audio book speaker, Petruo was also not unknown; He spoke in some episodes of the radio play series Sherlock Holmes von Romantruhe , Geisterjäger John Sinclair , Perry Rhodan or in some radio plays based on Edgar Wallace von Hörplanet , he also set Crime Machine and Gangland by the British author Howard Linskey , as well as the book So Was von tot by Chris Spar.

Petruo was agnostic . His daughter is the singer , actress and voice actress Vanessa Petruo , who became known through the band No Angels . He died on April 13, 2018 after a short, serious illness in the Vivantes Neukölln Clinic in the Berlin district of the same name .
