Howard Linskey

Howard Linskey (born May 16, 1967 ) is a British author and journalist .

Early years

Linskey grew up in Ferryhill, County Durham , England , where he attended Ferryhill Comprehensive School . He graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a degree in history and politics in 1989 before working as a bartender, catering manager and marketing manager for a celebrity chef, as well as in various sales and account management roles.

In 1998, Linskey completed his postgraduate studies in journalism, after which he worked for several regional newspapers in North West England , including the Warrington Guardian. Linskey is a supporter of Newcastle United and wrote for the club's fan magazine "The Mag".

As an author

Linskey's debut novel, The Drop , was published in 2011. The crime thriller takes place in Newcastle upon Tyne , England, with the fictional character David Blake. The book received positive reviews and was named one of its five best crime novels of 2011 by Peter Millar, who wrote for the London Times. The Drop was later confirmed for a television production by film producer David Barron . The book was published in Germany in 2014 under the title Crime Machine.

Two more works with the fictional character David Blake appeared later; The Damage (2012) was rated by the Times as one of the best summer readings, The Dead (2013) is the last book about David Blake. Both books entered the Amazon Kindle charts . The Damage (Ger. Gangland ) and The Drop (Ger. Crime Machine ) were set to music as audio books with Thomas Petruo as the narrator.

Linskey then began a new series of crime novels, which again take place in the north-east of England; the protagonists are journalists Tom Carney and Helen Norton, and police officer Ian Bradshaw. The series started with No Name Lane (2015), followed by Behind Dead Eyes (2016), The Search (2017) and The Chosen Ones (2018).

In addition to crime thrillers, Linskey has also written two novels set during World War II : Hunting The Hangman (2017), based on the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich , and Ungentlemanly Warfare (2019), based on an SOE operation in 1943.

TV Shows

Linskey was a lead writer on the CBS reality TV series Written In Blood in 2017. The series is about the Moors murders Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

Private

Linskey lives in Hertfordshire with his wife Alison and their daughter Erin. He is a lifelong member of Newcastle United.
