Harlan Coben
Harlan Coben (born January 4, 1962 in Newark , New Jersey ) is an American writer of thrillers .
Life
After studying political science at Amherst College , he first worked in the travel industry .
In 1995 his first thriller in the Myron Bolitar series appeared .
He lives in Ridgewood , New Jersey with his wife, Anne Armstrong-Coben, a pediatrician, and their four children .
Coben is the first author to win the three most important American crime prizes at the same time: the Edgar Allan Poe Award , the Shamus Award and the Anthony Award . His books have been translated into 33 languages and bestsellers in more than half a dozen countries .
After two little-known early works, Coben wrote his first book in 1995 about the experiences of sports manager Myron Bolitar. Critics loved the series. After seven books with the same main character, Harlan Coben wanted to try something new. He said, "I had a great idea that just wouldn't have worked for Myron Bolitar." The result was the New York Times bestseller No Death Word , which became one of 2001's top-rated thrillers. Harlan Coben built on the success of No Death Word with the books No Signs of Life , No Second Chance , No Bad Dream and No Peace to the Dead . By mentioning the same characters in different works, Coben creates his own universe in which both the Myron Bolitar series and all subsequent books are set.
Harlan Coben was the first writer to be asked to write a story for the New York Times in over a decade . His Father's Day short story was published on June 15, 2003.
Coben won the "Edgar Allan Poe Award" from the Mystery Writers of America and was nominated twice for it. He also won the “Anthony Award” at the “World Mystery Conference” and was later nominated for it again. He won the "Shamus Award" from the "Private Eye Writers of America" and was nominated again for it later, and he was nominated twice for the "Dilys Award" by the "Independent Mystery Booksellers Association".
The novel A Doomed Promise , published in 2006, is again part of the Myron Bolitar series; In his world, too, six years have passed since his last adventure.
In 2018, Coben signed an exclusive deal with Netflix to film 14 of his books. So far, the miniseries Safe , The Grave in the Forest and I'm Silent for You have emerged from this contract .
