Romeo Is Bleeding is an American - British thriller directed by Peter Medak from 1993 . The main role was played by Gary Oldman .

Policeman Jack Grimaldi is involved in a witness protection program. He sells his information through witnesses to the Mafioso Falcone. Grimaldi is married to Natalie and has young Sheri as a lover.
One day he is supposed to protect the Russian Mona Demarkov, whom he finds attractive. Falcone wants her death, but Demarkov escapes. She later turns to Grimaldi, who is supposed to fake her death for a large sum of money. Since Grimaldi does not provide the requested information about Demarkov Falcone in time, the latter has his bodyguards cut off a toe and threaten his family. Jack brings Natalie to safety and arranges a meeting point with her, which she should go to twice a year. He's also breaking up with Sheri.
Immediately after Grimaldi obtained false papers for Mona Demarkov, she tried to kill him. Grimaldi pursues Demarkov and shoots her, but it is Sheri who is tied up who he kills. He runs away in horror. Demarkov has had an arm amputated and fakes her own death with Sheri's corpse by laying her arm next to the corpse, dousing everything with gasoline and setting it on fire. The Russian takes Falcone into her power, forcing Grimaldi to bury the Mafioso alive.
When they want to say goodbye with one last sexual act, Grimaldi and Demarkov are surprised by the police and arrested. After the trial in which Demarkov is acquitted, Grimaldi snatches the gun from a police officer and kills the Russian woman. His ex-colleagues around him congratulate him on this shot. He was placed in the witness protection program himself and moved to Arizona. There he waits in vain for his wife.
Reviews
Roger Ebert criticized the script in the Chicago Sun-Times . "Great actors" ("a great cast") are unable to save the film.
The lexicon of international films praised the representations and criticized the "inconsistent" staging. The film addresses the self-inflicted "loss of happiness".
Awards
Lena Olin was nominated for the MTV Movie Award in 1994.

The film was downgraded from the age of 18 to 16 in September 2019 after a re-examination by the FSK.
