Peter Medak

Peter Medak (born December 23, 1937 in Budapest , Hungary ; also Peter Medák ) is a Hungarian film director .

Life and accomplishments

Medak fled to England in 1956 during the Hungarian uprising , where he gained experience in the film industry from the following year. He has directed television series, television films, and motion pictures. His first feature film was the drama Negatives with Glenda Jackson . In his 50-year career, Medak has worked as a director more than 50 times, for example in the musical comedy The Ruling Class with Peter O'Toole , whose leading role was nominated for an Oscar . Medak's other works include: the thriller Romeo Is Bleeding with Gary Oldman and Lena Olin , the drama The Hunchback of Notre Dame with Mandy Patinkin , Richard Harris and Salma Hayek , which Medak also co-produced, and the science fiction film Species II with Michael Madsen and Natasha Henstridge .

Medak has been married to the singer Julia Migenes since 1988 .

At the 1972 Cannes Film Festival he was nominated for The Ruling Class for the Palme d' Or. In 1991 he won the Evening Standard British Film Award for The Krays for best film. In the same year he was nominated for this film at Fantasporto for the International Fantasy Film Award .
