Juliette Lewis (born June 21, 1973 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress and musician .

life and career

Juliette Lewis is the daughter of actor Geoffrey Lewis and graphic designer Glenis Batley. Her parents divorced when she was two years old. She grew up with several siblings in Hollywood and on a ranch in Tarzana, California . At the age of 15, she dropped out of high school without a degree in order to concentrate fully on her acting career.

Movie

Lewis wanted to be an actress as a child and after auditioning several times, she finally got her first role in the television film Home Fires (1987) at the age of twelve . She then starred in the sitcoms I Married Dora (1987-1988) and The Facts of Life (1988) with Mindy Cohn and Cloris Leachman . She shot her first feature film, My Stepmother is an Alien (1988), alongside Dan Aykroyd , Kim Basinger and Alyson Hannigan . In 1989 she was seen in Schöne Bescherung as the daughter of Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo . In the same year she was hired for the role of Delores, the friend of Wayne Arnold, in the series Wonderful Years , which she impersonated until 1990.

Her first leading role she played in 1990 in the television film Too Young To Die with Brad Pitt . This drew the director Martin Scorsese's attention to Lewis, who then engaged them for his film Cape of Fear (1991). The role of Danielle Bowden, daughter of lawyer Samuel Bowden ( Nick Nolte ), earned her nominations for Best Supporting Actress for an Oscar and a Golden Globe , which boosted her national and international fame.

Other larger roles followed, such as B. 1992 in Woody Allen's husbands and wives , in the thriller Kalifornia (1993) again at the side of Brad Pitt and in Gilbert Grape - Somewhere in Iowa (1993) next to Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio . Her supporting roles in the comedies Old School and Starsky & Hutch are also noteworthy . In 2002 she played a supporting role alongside Jennifer Lopez in the film Enough . In 2007, Lieben und Lassen appeared , in which she played alongside Jennifer Garner , Timothy Olyphant and Kevin Smith .

In Germany in 2010 was in the movies love Awkward alongside Jennifer Aniston , Jason Bateman and Jeff Goldblum and date with Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis to see in the cinema. In 2013, the film was released in August in Osage County , in which Meryl Streep , Ewan McGregor and Benedict Cumberbatch , among others, played.

In 1994 she sang the song Born Bad for the film Natural Born Killers . In the film Strange Days (1995), in which she played the musician Faith Justin, she had a vocal appearance; she performed the song I can hardly wait by PJ Harvey .

In early 2003, Lewis formed the rock 'n' roll band Juliette and the Licks . Her debut album … Like a Bolt of Lightning was released in October 2004, followed by her second album You're Speaking My Language , which was released in May 2005. In 2003, Finnish rock band chose HIM Lewis as the main character for their video for Buried Alive By Love , directed by professional skateboarder and MTV star Bam Margera .

In 2004 she wrote and sang some lyrics for the British band The Prodigy , which appeared on the album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned . In October 2006 Juliette and the Licks released their third album Four on the Floor . In early 2009, Lewis announced the temporary end of the band on Myspace. She devoted herself to a new project that was to be called "Juliette and the New Romantiques". The band renamed her again in May 2009, and has since performed under her own name.

In September 2010 she took part in the MTV unplugged concert by Mando Diao on the song High Heels .

In July 2015, Juliette & the Licks gave a reunion concert in Los Angeles.

Private life

From 1990 to 1993 she was in a relationship with her fellow actor Brad Pitt , ten years her senior , whom she met too young while filming To Die .

In 1997 she moved to Florida to get over her cocaine addiction , which she did thanks to a private withdrawal and care program.

In 1999 Lewis married the professional skater Steve Berra . The marriage ended in divorce after four years.

Juliette Lewis is a member of Scientology .

Trivia

Juliette Lewis can be heard in the game GTA 4 as the radio host of the fictional radio station Radio Broker, on which the song Inside The Cage (David Gilmour Girls Remix) by the group Juliette and the Licks is played.
