action

The New York couple Leah and Cooper Tilson have two children. After their son is almost in a traffic accident, they decide to leave the big city. You buy Cold Creek Manor in a provincial town . The previous owner's son, Dale Massie , asked the Tilsons to help renovate the house. They learn that he spent three years in prison.

Mysterious incidents are happening. One morning the whole house is full of snakes. One evening the family man goes to a local bar where he meets Massie. He gets drunk there with Cooper Tilson and then first knocks his lover down before he starts a fight. Massie is stopped when Sheriff Ferguson threatens him with her gun. He then follows Tilson to his home. When he was followed by a jeep on his way back, the drunk Tilson rammed a roebuck. The next morning the bleeding corpse of the family horse is found in the swimming pool . The daughter first accuses her father, who, however, gives credible assurance that he hit a deer rather than the horse. The Tilsons ultimately blame Massie for causing these incidents.

Cooper Tilson finds out after speaking to Dale's father that Dale murdered his family. Cooper Tilson begins collecting evidence around the house. He had bought the house and its contents, and therefore had access to all private documents. He discovers old videos and family pictures as well as pornographic recordings of Massie's daughter. Cooper notifies the local police officer, Sheriff Ferguson. However, based on the circumstantial evidence collected, the arrest of Massies is not justified.

Leah brings the children back to New York, but then drives back to her husband when the connection is cut off during a phone call with him. It turns out that Massie disposed of the bodies in what is known as the Devil's Throat. The children remember coming across a wooden board while playing on the 500 hectare property. Only "evil" (the rest of Devil's throat) could be read on it. The Tilsons find the covered gullet into which Massie threw the corpses of his family. Cooper tries to notify Ferguson by radio. However, she was slain by Massie in her office and found by Ruby, her sister. Massie suddenly appears near the cave, throws Leah into it and escapes. Cooper helps his wife out again.

Massie now tries to kill the Tilsons, which he - armed with a hammer - drives onto the roof of the house. The couple rush Massie into an atrium , where he dies.
