action

The next day he travels back to Los Angeles , where he becomes increasingly aware of his dissatisfaction with his life. After a party there is an argument between Max and his wife Mimi. When Max visits his friend Charlie on his deathbed a year later, he meets his brother Vernon and his wife - Karen. Vernon invites Max and Mimi to dinner, at which Max and Karen try to keep up appearances that they hardly know each other.
A little later, Max and Karen meet at Charlie's bedside. They kiss, convinced that Charlie is sleeping. He wakes up and watches the scene, which he later speaks to Max with understanding. Charlie dies a few days later.
The focus is on Max, who at the end of the film is a different person than at the beginning. The film ends with Max and Karen being a couple and Vernon and Mimi also starting a relationship. Both couples still get along well.
