Timothy David Olyphant (born May 20, 1968 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) is an American actor .

Life

Olyphant was born in Honolulu . His parents moved with him to Modesto, California when he was two years old . His father worked in a winery . He began swimming at the age of six and was a finalist in the 1986 USA Swimming Short Course National Championships in the 200 meter swimming pool . He attended Fred C. Beyer High School in Modesto .

Olyphant then swam for the University of Southern California in Los Angeles , where he studied art . He took an Acting Elective from UC Irvine to get the required score for his degree. Olyphant then decided to study acting in New York City , where he graduated with a Masters.

Olyphant lives in Westwood (Los Angeles) with his wife Alexis Knief and their three children . The couple has been married since 1991.

Career

Olyphant made his feature film debut in 1996 in The Devils Club in a minor role alongside Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton . In Better Life Unusual , he stood next to Ewan McGregor and Cameron Diaz in front of the camera and then got the role of the cynical film student Mickey in the horror film Scream 2 .

He received a role in the 1998 HBO TV film The Sound of War about the filming of the events of the Battle of Huertgen Forest in 1944. He then played a lover of Carrie Bradshaw ( Sarah Jessica Parker ) in the US television series Sex and the City . As drug dealer Todd Gaines in the film Go by director Doug Liman , he can be seen at the side of Katie Holmes , Scott Wolf and Sarah Polley , with John August making his debut as a screenwriter. This was followed by roles in Advice from a Caterpillar (1999), No Vacancy (1999), The Broken Hearts Club - A Romantic Comedy (2000) and Just 60 Seconds .

From March 2004, Olyphant played the lead role of Sheriff Seth Bullock in the series Deadwood on HBO . This is considered to be his breakthrough as an established performer. This was preceded by roles in the movies Rock Star and Dreamcatcher . In addition to the series Deadwood , he played a porn film producer in the film The Girl Next Door , with the actors Emile Hirsch and Elisha Cuthbert can also be seen.

In January 2007, Olyphant made an appearance in the comedy Love and Let , in which he played Jennifer Garner's lover . In the movie The Crazies - Fear thy neighbor , who came to theaters in 2010, Timothy Olyphant plays the main role of the town sheriff. From 2010 to 2015 he can be seen in the series Justified in the lead role of the US marshal Raylan Givens . For this role, Olyphant received an Emmy nomination in 2011 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

In the action thriller I'm Number Four by director DJ Caruso , Olyphant played the role of the guard Henri , who protects the alien John Smith aka Number Four , played by Alex Pettyfer , but dies in the course of the film. In the same year he voiced his voice in the computer-animated comedy Rango , the Spirit of the West .

From 2017 to 2019, Olyphant starred in the role of Joel Hammond in Santa Clarita Diet . He was also executive producer on the series, as did Drew Barrymore . In 2019 he had a role in the drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood , set in the 1960s during the Manson Family . Olyphant plays the actor James Stacy and at the same time the film set colleague of Leonardo DiCaprio's character Rick Dalton.
