Myth and Monster Investigator / Researcher Sir Lionel Frost embarks on an adventure to the Pacific Northwest to prove the existence of man's legendary ancestor. He is accompanied on his journey by Adelina Fortnight, a free-spirited, independent adventurer who is in possession of the only known map that could lead her to the secret place where Link is staying. With the company, Frost also wants to gain the recognition of his / her narrow-minded discoverer. When they find the one they are looking for, the creature that Frost gives the name of Mr. Link turns out to be a kind-hearted and surprisingly clever, but also very lonely creature.
Mr. Link believes he is the last representative of his kind, but a rumor gives him hope, because there are said to be more beings like him in the mysterious place called Shangri-La . His cold-weather cousins, hairy, blue-skinned yetis, are said to have built a society there that is far from the threat to humanity. Together with the research group, Mr. Link embarks on a search for this legendary paradise.

The film is produced by Laika Entertainment . Directed by Chris Butler , who also wrote the script. Laika had already produced Butler's film ParaNorman , which was nominated for the best animated film at the 2013 Academy Awards . Butler combined stop-motion technology with modern computer animation .
In May 2018 it was announced that Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson were among the speakers.
The Laika set designers built a total of 110 sets with 65 different locations.
The score was composed by Carter Burwell . The recording was made in 2018. The soundtrack, which comprises a total of 32 tracks, was released on April 12, 2019 by Lakeshore Records as a download.
At the beginning of November 2018, Annapurna Pictures and Laika Studios released a first trailer. The film was released in US theaters on April 12, 2019. The theatrical release in Germany took place on May 30, 2019, in Austria on the following day.

In Germany the film was approved by the FSK from the age of 6.
So far, the film has received a rather positive rating from 89 percent of Rotten Tomatoes critics . The consensus there says that the film is another beautifully animated triumph for Laika , a visual treat with a lot of humor, a lot of heart, which even makes you think a little.
Variety's Peter Debruge writes that one would have expected the film to come up with a number of challenges of classic adventure films, instead it follows a more Vaudevillian script that makes you laugh with funny disguises and comedy gags.
Empire Magazine's John Nugent describes the film as a charming family-friendly story of adventure and friendship, told with artistic and technical skill.
