Travis Knight
Travis Knight (* 1973 in Hillsboro , Oregon ) is an American animator , filmmaker and former rapper .
Life
Travis Knight grew up in Hillsboro, Oregon. He is the son of Phil Knight , the founder and chairman of Nike . His grandfather was the publisher William W. Knight . He attended Jesuit High School near Beaverton and then studied at Portland State University .
In 1993 Knight released the rap album Get Off Mine and a single of the same name under the pseudonym Chilly Tee . The album was produced by The Bomb Squad and flopped. Knight then withdrew from the rap business.
He then became an employee of Will Venton's film studio . He was a stop-motion animator on the 1999 television series Janitor Stubbs , produced by Eddie Murphy Productions and Imagine Entertainment, and Gary & Mike on the United Paramount Network . After Venton left the studio and the company was renamed Laika , Knight's father joined the company. This made Travis Knight rise. He first became Vice President of Animation and has been the company's President and Chief Executive Officer since 2009 .
First he shot various commercials, including for the National Football League on Fox . He then became the main animator in the films Coraline (2009), Laika's debut film, ParaNorman (2012) and The Boxtrolls (2014). For the latter, he received a nomination for best animated film at the 2015 Academy Awards . He made his directorial debut with Kubo - The Brave Samurai , which was released in 2016.
For his work on ParaNorman , Knight received the 2013 Annie Award in the category "Character Animation in a Feature Production".
