Dame Emma Thompson , DBE (born April 15, 1959 in Paddington , London ) is a British actress , film producer , screenwriter and multiple Golden Globe and Oscar winner.
life and career
Emma Thompson is the daughter of actress Phyllida Law and actor, director and television producer Eric Thompson . Her younger sister Sophie Thompson is also an actress. Mother Phyllida occasionally stars in films made by her eldest daughter Emma.
While studying English at Newnham College in Cambridge , Thompson played theater and appeared in sketches with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.In 1992, the three starred alongside Thompson's then husband Kenneth Branagh in his tragicomedy Peter's Friends . After training, she became a professional actress. She entered the British Comedy telecast Alfresco and the musical Me and My Girl at. 1986 she starred in the BBC - television series Fortunes of War , where she met her future husband Kenneth Branagh. In 1987 she got her own TV sitcom Thompson .
With Reunion in Howards End (1992) Thompson had her first major success, for which she was awarded a Golden Globe and an Oscar. In 1994 she got a role in Junior with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the first time in a Hollywood flick.
