Phyllida Ann Law (born May 8, 1932 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a British actress .

Life

Phyllida Law was born in Glasgow in 1932 to William and Megsie Law. Her parents divorced after World War II . She was married to actor and director Eric Thompson from 1957 until his death in 1982 . Their children, Emma and Sophie Thompson, are both actresses. Law appeared in many documentaries and interviews about the work of her late husband in the television series The Magic Roundabout ( Magic Roundabout ) on.

Career

Law shot a lot for British television; She has appeared in the television series Dixon of Dock Green and Rumpole of the Bailey, as well as in the adaptation of the Lord Peter Wimsey story The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club (1972).

She was in the films Peter's Friends (1992) and Much Ado About Nothing (1993) and in Alan Rickman's directorial debut The Winter Guest (1997) each with her daughter Emma Thompson .

In 2007 she was a guest star in two spin-off episodes of Doctor Who : she played Bea Nelson-Stanley in The Sarah Jane Adventures episode Eye of the Gorgon and was heard as Beldonia in the British audio drama The Bride of Peladon . She also played Aunt Auriel in the British television series Kingdom with Stephen Fry in 2007 . In 2008 she was a guest star on the British television series Foyle's War .

She also illustrated the autobiography Beginning by Kenneth Branagh .

Prizes and awards

Phyllida Law was awarded an honorary doctorate by Muhammad Yunus , Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University (July 4, 2013)
