Historical accuracy

Bosquet des rocailles in Versailles

Some of the characters in the film are fictional, first and foremost the protagonist Sabine de Barras. The film is set in 1682, while André Le Nôtre began his work in 1661. In 1682 Le Notre was almost seventy years old, twice as old as Schoenaerts, who embodied him in the film. One garden very similar to the one in the film is the Bosquet des Rocailles of the Palace of Versailles

publication

The premiere took place at TIFF 2014 on September 13, 2014. On October 17, 2014 it was shown in a gala show at the London Film Festival . It premiered in the United States on March 25, 2015 at the Sonoma International Film Festiva. In Germany, the film was released on April 30, 2015.

Reviews

“The film […] pulls all the melodramatic stops, so to speak, without having to take it all so seriously. It's a gimmick, despite its melancholy mood, a movie fun that tries to play out its gender skirmishes appropriately. "
