Helen Elizabeth McCrory , OBE (born August 17, 1968 in London , † April 16, 2021 there ) was a British actress .

life and career

Helen McCrory was born in London in 1968 as the eldest of three children of Ian and Anne McCrory. She grew up in numerous countries, such as Norway , Nigeria , France and Madagascar . McCrory graduated from the University of the Arts in London . She completed her acting training at the London Drama Center.

McCrory began her career in television series until she received a minor role in the feature film Interview with a Vampire (1994) directed by Neil Jordan . Further appearances in costume films such as Casanova and Beloved Jane followed . In 2008 McCrory was hired to play Narcissa Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince . She was also featured in the two film adaptations of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows . She gained further notoriety for her portrayal of Cherie Blair alongside Michael Sheen in the Oscar- winning film The Queen and in the television production The Special Relationship , both based on scripts by Peter Morgan .

In the course of the New Year Honors 2017, McCrory was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire by the British Queen .

On July 4, 2007, she married the actor Damian Lewis . They had a daughter and a son together. The family lived intermittently in Los Angeles before returning to London. On April 16, 2021, she died at the age of 52 years to cancer .
