Your best hour (Original title: Their Finest ) is a British film drama directed by Lone Scherfig from 2016.

action

Catrin Cole lives in a wild marriage with Ellis Cole in London, whose last name she has adopted. In 1940, the year of the war, she took up a position at the British Ministry of Information , whose propaganda films are intended to restore courage and hope to the nation after the defeat of the British Army in Europe. Catrin is responsible for giving the films a more feminine touch, so that above all the many mothers and wives whose sons and husbands are at war can identify with the fight against Hitler Germany . Shortly after Catrin's hiring, the young Tom Buckley is tasked with making a film about the heroic rescue of some soldiers from the beach in Dunkirk . Since the story is supposedly based on a true story and is about twin sisters who stole the cutter of their drinking-addicted father in order to save as many soldiers as possible from the mainland, Tom also takes Catrin into his team. However, when Catrin asked the two sisters to describe the actual events behind the heroic deed at Dunkirk, she decided to withhold the truth and use the means at her disposal to campaign for greater equality in the patriarchal society of the 1940s.

production

The film premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival .

Reviews

“Scherfig, who has already demonstrated her knack for English romances with period flair with“ An Education ”, vividly evokes the sense of community of the filmmakers who defied the Blitzkrieg. The dialogues are full of epigrams that mischievously tell of how to cope with the absurdities of everyday war life. The narrative tone is warm and comfortable, but does not close itself to the hardships of the times. "
