Lone Scherfig
Lone Scherfig (born May 2, 1959 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish director and screenwriter .
Life
Scherfig, great-niece of Hans Scherfig , studied film studies at the University of Copenhagen and the Sorbonne in Paris from 1976 to 1980 and also directing at the Danske Filmskole (Danish film school), where she graduated in 1984. From 1984 onwards, Scherfig directed smaller documentaries, her first feature film The Birthday Journey was made in 1990.
Scherfig first gained international recognition through the dogma film Italian for Beginners .
In 2019 Scherfig will open the 69th Berlinale with her feature film The Kindness of Strangers . The Danish-Canadian co-production in English is an ensemble film set in New York in winter . She was able to engage Jay Baruchel , David Dencik , Caleb Landry Jones , Zoe Kazan , Bill Nighy , Tahar Rahim and Andrea Riseborough as actors .
