action

Wintry New York City becomes the place of unexpected encounters between Clara, Marc, Alice, Jeff and John Peter:

The young mother Clara arrives in town with her sons Anthony and Jude. She is on the run from her violent husband Richard, who works as a police officer. When their car, in which they spend the nights, is towed, they receive help from the selfless nurse and amateur therapist Alice. Alice organizes the three beds in an emergency shelter.

When penniless Clara enters the Russian restaurant Winter Palace in search of something to eat , she meets Marc. Marc spent four years in jail wrongly and works at the Winter Palace as a restaurant manager for the eccentric Russian owner Timofey. He has learned to control his temper and avoids relatives and former friends. The naive and slow Jeff never lasts long in his jobs. He is lonely and longs for company.

Attorney John Peter works hard and has high moral standards, yet he often loses his cases. One of his few successes is the pardon of Marc, whom he tries to persuade to take part in a weekly therapy group called "Forgiveness". This is directed by Alice.
