Zoe Swicord Kazan (born September 9, 1983 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress , screenwriter and playwright .

Life

Zoe Kazan is the daughter of screenwriter Nicholas Kazan and director Robin Swicord . Actress Maya Kazan is her younger sister and her grandfather was director Elia Kazan . She received her acting training from Yale University and graduated in 2005. Her stage debut had 2006 in the Off-Broadway production of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie alongside Cynthia Nixon .

Her first small film role was in The Savage Siblings in 2007 . In the same year she played alongside Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins in the film The Perfect Crime the role of the paralegal Mona. In 2008/2009 she can be seen in several major films. In times of turmoil , she played Leonardo DiCaprio's mistress . The independent film The Exploding Girl and Rebecca Miller's Pippa Lee were shown at the Berlinale 2009 . In If Love Was That Easy, she played one of Meryl Streep's daughters . The high point of her theater career so far was the role of Mascha in Anton Chekhov's Die Möwe at the side of Kristin Scott Thomas and Peter Sarsgaard in 2008 .

In 2012 she played the lead role in the film Ruby Sparks , for which she also wrote the script.

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Kazan has been in a relationship with actor Paul Dano since 2007 and had a daughter in 2018.
