The bakery owner Jane has three grown children and has been divorced for some time. Her ex-husband Jake has in the meantime married the younger Agness and maintains a friendly relationship with Jane until old feelings arise after their son's college graduation and they start an affair, although Jane and her architect Adam are also currently developed a new relationship. The mutual love affair is also kept a secret from the children until Jake separates from Agness and Jane asks if she can come back. However, Jane wants to focus on the connection with Adam and ends the affair. However, Adam rejects a relationship with her because she is still somehow in love with Jake and vice versa. Jane and Jake speak out. The film closes with a scene in which Adam and the construction workers want to start the extension for Jane's house. Because it is raining, Jane asks the people in, and she and Adam run into the house under an umbrella, laughing and joking.

“Nancy Meyers […] probably wanted to create a comedy comedy here for advanced semesters. According to the motto 'It's never too late for love', she went to attract the audience with good actors. But the gags don't really want to ignite and whether two men actually want to conquer a Meryl Streep is an open question. Even if a few of the bold attempts at conquest make you smile, a good comedy does not yet make the few successful scenes. "
Awards
Although Meryl Streep has already been nominated for Julie & Julia for the Golden Globe , she was also nominated for If Love Was That Easy and thus has two nominations in the same category . However, she won the award for Julie & Julia .
The film itself also received a nomination for Best Picture (Comedy / Musical) and Nancy Meyers was able to make the race for another Golden Globe nomination in the category of Best Screenplay .
The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
