  • January 1st: Director and producer Oliver Berben becomes managing director of Constantin Film and is responsible for the national and international television and cinema business.
  • March 11: The Academy of Austrian Films , based in Vienna , is founded by well-known Austrian filmmakers. It is the declared aim of the academy to set up its own film prize and to award it for the first time in 2010.
  • MAY 26: The Federal Court is the controversial film Rohtenburg free
  • June 21: Spanish director and screenwriter Álex de la Iglesia is elected President of the Spanish Film Academy .
  • December 10th: World premiere of Avatar - Departure for Pandora (Director: James Cameron ). After the start of the theatrical release on December 16, 2009, this film turned out to be the most commercially successful production of all time after just a few weeks (figures not adjusted for inflation).
