Jean-Paul Roussillon
Jean-Paul Roussillon (born March 5, 1931 in Paris , † July 31, 2009 in Auxerre ) was a French actor and director . He starred in more than 115 plays and films between 1945 and 2008.
Life
The son of a theater director went through the École nationale supérieure des arts et techniques du théâtre and, together with Michel Galabru, the Conservatoire , before he was accepted as a pensionnaire at the Comédie-Française in 1950 . The Paris National Theater, for which he worked for more than fifty years, made him a permanent actor (sociétaire) in 1960 . He was particularly successful in plays by William Shakespeare and Molière . Roussillon appeared in the Molière pieces The Miser , George Dandin , The School of Women with the young Isabelle Adjani , as well as in Tartuffe and The Misanthrope with Robert Hirsch . Later he also worked as a theater director. In 1982 he left the Comédie-Française as a sociétaire honoraire and appeared as a theater actor in plays by Jean-Claude Grumberg and Yasmina Reza, among others . In 1991 and 1996 Roussillon was awarded the Molière , France's most important theater prize, for his supporting roles in Zone Libre and Michel Fagadau's Anouilh production Colombe . In 2002 he received the award for best leading actor for his appearance as the suspicious cancer patient patriarch in Véronique Olmi's play Le Jardin des apparences .
Parallel to his theater career, Roussillon began to appear in television and cinema films from the mid-1950s. He has worked with such well-known directors as Julien Duvivier ( The Angel Who Was a Devil , 1956), Joseph Losey ( A Woman Like a Fish , 1982) and Bertrand Tavernier ( D'Artagnan's Daughter , 1994). For his last film role in Arnaud Desplechin 's film Un conte de Noël , in which he the husband of Catherine Deneuve embodied, he was in 2009 with the French film award César as Best Supporting Actor award.
Roussillon was married to the actress Catherine Ferran . He died at the age of 78 in Auxerre hospital from long-term lung cancer .
