action

Iouri has been building his girlfriend Tatiana Fedorova into a Russian pop star for some time when her parents promptly thwarted his plans: Father Fedor is a Jewish historian and, while working for a likewise Jewish scientist at the university, forgot himself and that Rector knocked his glasses off his nose in an argument. He is a three-time Lenin Order laureate. Because Fedor is now determined to fight and start a revolution, the KGB is soon at the door. Iouri, Tatiana, Fedor and his wife Tamara flee to Iouri's brother-in-law Igor, who runs the Hotel Tolstoy in Moscow . He is supposed to give the group contact with a Georgian who is supposed to bring everyone out of the country.

Igor has come to terms with the system in Moscow. He lubricates others and lets himself be lubricated, but in the end he leads the hotel and life in such a way that, above all, he benefits from it. The success of his piano-playing daughter has long been more important to him than the well-being of the customer. Above all, his good relationship with Minister Alexeï saves him from many a nuisance. However, when public rumors emerged that Igor was corrupt, Alexeï had to agree to an examination of the hotel. He sends him the allegedly incompetent Boris Pikov, who turns out to be particularly loyal to the line and anti-corrupt. When Iouri appears with his girlfriend and in-laws, Igor is overwhelmed. In order not to make Boris suspicious, he secretly moves into his own apartment, as he has previously occupied five suites in the hotel. He also tries to smuggle numerous valuables out of the hotel. Both his and Iouri's family live with him. Soon the KGB appears at the hotel and warns Igor about Iouri, who was seen in Moscow and is alleged to be the head of a gang of Jewish terrorists. Back in his apartment, Igor throws Iouri and the others out, but then accompanies them to the Georgian. He sells the group an engine for an aircraft that is not far from the border with Turkey. He will wait for them there and take them out of the country.

After a few chaotic incidents, Igor, Iouri, Tatiana, Fedor and his wife Tamara start by car and reach the agreed meeting point after three days. The aircraft turns out to be junk, but can be made roadworthy. When attempting to take off, the entire nose of the aircraft tears off and crashes into Igor's car. The group returns to Moscow by truck. Igor's absence has sparked suspicion and Igor is soon arrested through Boris Pikov's involvement, but released shortly afterwards after the minister objects. Meanwhile, Iouri and his people hide in a secret place, where they are provided with food by Igor's wife Natacha. Igor follows her and reveals the hiding place to the KGB, as the KGB threatens to arrest his daughter. It is Boris Pikov who interferes again and unwittingly warns Iouri and the others so that they manage to escape.

New Year's Eve, Igor hosts a big celebration for his friends and colleagues by the sea. The minister Alexeï came here by yacht. Iouri and his people finally arrive at the place of celebration. After a few chaotic entanglements, they manage to take the key to the yacht. Igor and the war veteran Leonid Bassounov, disguised as Santa Claus, engage in a Santa Claus sleigh race with the KGB, which ends with Boris Pikov shooting Bassounov in the leg and thus sealing his social downfall. Igor, Natacha, Iouri, Tatiana, Fedor and Tamara manage to escape with the yacht. Russian Truth Radio announced shortly after that a group of 100 prozionist and CIA-controlled mercenaries briefly entered Russian territory to carry out an attack on Bassounov, which led to the questioning of the US ambassador. In the end, those involved go different paths: Boris Pikov ends up in Siberia, Fedor processes his experiences in the book Under the Yoke of the New Tsars , Tatiana and Iouri have become musicians in Azerbaijan and Igor and Natacha have opened a Russian bar in London, which they take from the Financed the proceeds of her daughter's first concerts.

criticism

The lexicon of international films called Twist Again in Moscow a "largely enjoyable satire on real existing socialism with some serious undertones", which was particularly "appealing" because of Philippe Noiret's play. “In his 1987 film, Jean-Marie Poire shows the Bolshevita of lethal socialism in the Soviet Union,” wrote Der Spiegel in 1990.
