Valloire is a French commune with 1,083 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and belongs to the association of municipalities Maurienne Galibier on. The name Valloire probably comes from Vallée d'Or (valley of gold, but not necessarily the precious metal) and has its origins in the 11th century.

Valloire is the southernmost municipality in the Savoie department. It is located near the Franco- Italian border, between the Col du Galibier and the Col du Télégraphe . The municipality extends over an altitude difference of 2800 m, from the banks of the Arc River at 700 m to the three peaks of the 3514 m high Aiguilles d'Arves . The main town is crossed by the Valloirette river.

Together with the neighboring town of Valmeinier, the municipality forms the winter sports resort "Galibier Thabor" with 83 ski slopes totaling 150 km in length, which are accessed by approx. 35 ski lifts.
