The winter sports station La Toussuire

Fontcouverte-la-Toussuire (until 1987 Fontcouverte ) is a French municipality with 510 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is located in the Maurienne , around 45 km (as the crow flies) east of Grenoble .

In addition to the Fontcouverte settlement at an altitude of 1160 m, the community includes some hamlets and individual farms as well as the La Toussuire winter sports station, which extends at 1750 m on the eastern slope of the Tête de Bellard , an elevation of the Arvan-Villards massif. La Toussuire is part of the Domaine des Sybelles winter sports area with 10 ski lift stations and 310 km of slopes. In summer it is occasionally a destination for mountain bikers , the Dauphiné Libéré and the Tour of France for cyclists and their fans. In its vicinity are the Col de la Croix de Fer , Col du Mollard and Col du Glandon , the L'Etendard glacier , all of which are dominated by the Aiguilles d'Arves .
