Aiton is a French commune with 1,667 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) within the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in the department of Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is about 20 kilometers from Albertville , which it is connected to by the A430 Autoroute .

Aiton is located at the exit of the Arc River , one of the great transverse valleys of the Western Alps , which was formed after the last Ice Age . The valley region, into which several large Alpine passes flow, formed a historical province of Savoy under the name of Maurienne .

Thanks to its convenient location at the motorway junction between Grenoble , Geneva and Turin , the municipality has experienced a significant increase in population.
