Geographical location
Val-Cenis is located around 60 kilometers south-southeast of Albertville in the Vanoise . The ski area of the same name is located in the municipality . Val-Cenis is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Champagny-en-Vanoise in the north and north-west, Tignes in the north and north-east, Val-d'Isère in the north-east, Bessans in the east, Novalesa , Moncenisio , Venaus , Jaillons , Exilles in the east and south-east, Bardonecchia in the south, Avrieux in the southwest, Aussois in the west and Pralognan-la-Vanoise in the south and west.

On January 1, 2017, Val-Cenis was formed as Commune nouvelle from the previously independent municipalities of Bramans , Lanslebourg-Mont-Cenis , Lanslevillard , Sollières-Sardières and Termignon .
