Henri Jacques Daniel Paul François (born May 16, 1920 in Paris ; † November 25, 2003 ) was a French theater and film actor .

Life

After his time in the navy and participation in the Second World War , for which he also received the Croix de guerre 1939-1945 , François was active in the acting profession since the 1940s. After an aborted attempt to become a lawyer like his father , he took the Cours Simon . His reserved and cultivated appearance has been used in numerous films in supporting roles as a businessman, elected representative or lawyer.

After starting out in film, he made around 20 films until the mid-1950s - François, who grew up bilingual , also took part in a trip to Hollywood before concentrating on the stage and not returning to the small screen and big screen until 1970 with a television series , where it was seen well over 100 times.

His first stage appearance was in 1941 with Elvire Popesco in "La ligne d'horizon" ; then he played in over 90 pieces, u. a. by Jean Anouilh , Sacha Guitry , Bernard-Henri Lévy , Jean-Claude Brisville and Anton Chekhov . He has been associated with the La Splendid theater since the 1970s .

As a good athlete, he performed a trapeze number with Gaby Sylvia in 1957 .

His memoirs, published in 1992, are titled Rappels .

François was a Knight of the Legion of Honor and holder of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres .
