The Dunfermline Building Society is the largest building society in Scotland . The Dunfermline- based credit institution had approximately 312,000 customers in 2009.

history

The company was founded in 1869. In 1994 the new headquarters in the south of Dunfermline were moved. Telephone banking was first offered in 1999 . In 2009, the company ran into economic difficulties during the financial crisis . Reason should be high-risk investments in the USA. According to press reports, the British Financial Market Authority is looking for buyers for parts of the company. The company is expected to post a loss for 2008 of £ 27 million.
