The time Knights - In Search of the Sacred Tooth is the continuation of the successful French Fantasy - Comedy Visitors , directed by again Jean-Marie Poiré . In contrast to its predecessor ($ 100 million box office), this film only grossed about a quarter as much worldwide. The film opened in German cinemas on July 30, 1998.

action

After Godefroy de Papincourt, Count of Montmirail, traveled back in time, he met his squire Jacquouille la Fripouille, his descendant Jacquard, who was tortured by the Inquisition . At the same moment the jewels of Duke Fulbert von Pouille, in which the tooth of the blessed Rolande is incorporated (a fertility relic), which Jacquouille had taken from the then still dead Duke and hidden in the first part, disappeared. Unfortunately, he has taken these jewels in the present and the time locks could no longer close. Meanwhile, Béatrice de Montmirail tries to bring Jacquouille and Ginette la clocharde (who she believes also come from the Middle Ages) back to their time. They cause a lot of chaos, in which the house almost burns down and through a mishap, Béatrice's husband Jean-Pierre ends up in the Middle Ages together with Jacquouille. Godefroy, Jean-Pierre, Jacquouille and his descendants return to our present and try to find the Duke's jewels, which Ginette has stolen in the meantime and which Ginette wants to move to a jeweler. He informs Cora de Montmirail (the ex-wife of cousin Hubert) about the loss of the jewels. Cora and her daughter Philippine think Godefroy is cousin Hubert and Philippine asks him to stay until their wedding. With a heavy heart, Godefroy agrees to this request. After the wedding, Godefroy and Jacquouille travel through time again, but instead of in the Middle Ages they find each other again at the time of the French Revolution , when Béatrice had put orange liqueur in the magic potion.

criticism

The continuation of The Visitors only poorly matches the level and wit of the first part. The reassignment of the double role of Frénégonde de Pouille and Béatrice de Montmirail by Muriel Robin and the partial change of names is also disturbing .

“The film, intended as a sequel, is little more than a repetition with a high level of trick technology, which gives its main actor a forum for naive, clumsy attacks. Many of the computer-generated special effects are in the air in terms of content and can only be explained with reference to the American film market. "

continuation

In 2016, the film Les Visiteurs - La Révolution was released , which follows directly from the plot of the time knights from 1998.
