Alain Terzian

Alain Terzian (born May 2, 1949 in Paris ) is a French film producer as well as a film and association official.

Training and production activities

The son of Armenian immigrants studied political science at the Paris Institut d'études politiques and at the Université de Paris II . In 1970 he joined the production company Films 13, where he had worked in several positions, and in 1977 he joined Adel Production. He was employed there for two years. In 1980, Terzian founded his first own production company, T.Film, and the following year, Messine Productions, another company of the native Parisian was established.

Terzian's productions are usually high quality entertainment films with big screen stars from the 1980s and '90s. Its output includes comedies as well as action films and thrillers. Occasionally he also took on guest roles in his productions.

Activities as a film official

As a functionary, Terzian also holds a number of posts within the French film industry. For example, he was vice-president and later also president of the national producers' association UPF and president of the Blic (Bureau de liaison de l'industrie cinématographique). Alain Terzian was President of the Commission nationale du film from 1994, and since 2007 he has been President of the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma , which is responsible for awarding the most important French film prize, César . Alain Terzian has been a member of the Conseil économique, social et environnemental since 2010 . He is also the administrator of the Cannes Film Festival . On February 14, 2020, the entire Presidium of the César Academy resigned.

Awards and honors

Terzian has been an officer since July 2004 and Commander of the Legion of Honor since 2012 , an officer of the Ordre national du Mérite and the Médaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris. He also bears the title of Knight des Arts et des Lettres .

Political commitment

In 2012 Terzian unsuccessfully supported Nicolas Sarkozy in his struggle for re-election as French President. In the spring of the same year, Terzian's comrades-in-arms from the French cultural and film scene included Gérard Depardieu , Charles Aznavour and Claude Lelouch .
