The Story of Laura M is a French film directed by David Hamilton .

content

The pubescent teenager Laura sees the older sculptor Paul Thomas Wyler playing ballet and falls in love with him. She doesn't know that her mother was once his lover and model. After initial reluctance, she allows him to make a sculpture of Laura, albeit based on pictures she made of her naked daughter. When Paul temporarily loses his sight after an accident and the sculpture is not yet finished, Laura is the model in person and Paul can finish his work by touch.

background

At the beginning, Hamilton used one of his favorite motifs, which he already showed in detail in various photographs and in his last illustrated book La Danse , the ballet. As in Bilitis , the sculptor Paul focuses on an artist as the male protagonist.

Reviews

  • “(...) soft-porned product by cuddly soft-draftsman Hamilton with a lot of girl's skin and hair." (Rating: 1 star = weak) - Adolf Heinzlmeier and Berndt Schulz in: Lexicon "Films on TV" (extended new edition). Rasch and Röhring, Hamburg 1990, ISBN 3-89136-392-3 , p. 296
  • “The pompous story is told in honey-sweet picture sequences that are intended to illustrate the connection between art and eros. Nevertheless, the film remains unconvincing and boring. ”- Lexicon of international film
