action

Jacques Darnay is released from prison after nine years. He and Chabry and his partner Mignot had ambushed and shot Chabry's uncle in his jewelry store. Before he is released, however, Mignot is visited by gross men who want to find out where the prey is hiding. Mignot flees. Meanwhile, Darnay has reunited with his old love Clarisse and meets with Mignot, who is killed by strangers. When he tries to hide Clarisse, she too is killed. He turns to Gino, who helps him with money and a place to hide. He even gives him a mistress, Nathalie. Nathalie, however, tells Darnay about the double game that Gino is playing with him and that the men who pursue him are his. Little by little, Darnay eliminates his pursuers, but is lured into a trap one time or another if it wasn't for Nathalie, who rescues him from a mess. But not only Gino wants the booty, Commissioner Rouxel also wants it in order to collect the insurance premium. Darnay evades Gino's original plan, retrieves the loot, and kills Gino. He and Nathalie flee to Spain with Rouxel on their necks who won't let up. Yet they manage to outsmart the commissioner and escape to South America.

Special

  • The film was based on the book Le battant (The Fighter) by André Caroff .
  • The singer Dalida sang the title of the film Je n'aime que lui .
  • The German version differs significantly from the original version. E.g. the complete opening credits in which Mignot is visited and shot by Gino's henchmen in the restaurant is missing. The Universum / Tobis DVD therefore contains two different playback options.

Reviews

"Action-packed gangster film in which Alain Delon does not match his role model Jean-Pierre Melville , but through comedic ideas he can begin to recognize his own signature."

“Alain Delon's all-round blow: he directed and played the leading role in 'The Fighter'. He also provided the script. With the action-packed crime thriller, Delon leaned on the 1967 film ' The Ice Cold Angel ' directed by Jean-Pierre Melville , in which he also played the leading role. And for the second time, the man with the stone face on the screen - after ' Save your skin, killer ' - directed. The young Anne Parillaud can be seen in a supporting role. "
