Life

Bertrand Tavernier comes from Lyon and is a son of the writer and essayist René Tavernier. Together with Volker Schlöndorff , he attended the Lycée Henri IV in Paris . He first studied law and wrote film reviews in various magazines. He later worked as an assistant director to Jean-Pierre Melville and as a press agent.

From 1965 to 1980 he was married to the British Colo O'Hagen († 2020), who later worked several times as a screenwriter on his films. He has a son, Nils Tavernier (born September 1, 1965), who also works as a director and actor, and a daughter, Tiffany Tavernier (born May 3, 1967), who is a writer and assistant director.

Tavernier moved the plot to his hometown Lyon and added a political dimension to it. The film won a Silver Bear and the Louis Delluc Prize in 1974 . Tavernier's greatest success so far was the jazz film At Midnight in 1986 with the saxophonist Dexter Gordon in the lead role and the music by Herbie Hancock , who received an Oscar for this music . Tavernier has also remained true to his profession as a film author as a director and has published several books on the subject of cinema. Christine Pascal , who, like Tavernier, comes from Lyon, and Philippe Noiret played in many of his films .
