The 1974 Berlin International Film Festival took place from June 21 to July 2, 1974.

This year the Berlinale took place at the same time as the major event in Germany, the 1974 World Cup . Under the festival director Alfred Bauer , however, football was not the focus of Dieter Kosslick's decades later . Another event was much more important for the future of the festival. For the first time a Soviet film was shown in the festival program.
