Philetus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philetus ( Greek : Philetos; also: Philippus) († 231 ) was Bishop of Antioch as the successor of Asklepiades .

Hieronymus placed the beginning of his term of office in the reign of Emperor Macrinus , which is why the year 218 is usually found for this ; a later chronicle names the sixth year of Caracalla (216), and the year 220 is also mentioned. On the other hand, there is broad agreement about the year of death 231. Details about the life of Philetus are not known. His successor was Zebinus .
