- Spring: The last war between the Roman Empire and the Parthians comes to an end, Emperor Macrinus buys a peace treaty from Artabanos IV with high tribute payments .
- May 16 : Elagabal (actually: Varius Avitus Bassianus) is proclaimed Roman emperor by the rebellious Legio III Gallica in Emesa . As emperor he calls himself Marcus Aurel (l) ius Antoninus in order to tie in with the Antonine like his alleged father Caracalla .
- June 8th : Elagabal defeats Macrinus in a battle near Antioch on the Orontes .
- June / July: Macrinus and his son Diadumenianus are executed.
