Roman Empire
- The Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus elevates the oriental sun god Elagabal to the supreme god of the Roman Empire , casts off his wife Iulia Paula , whom he only married the previous year, and marries the vestal virgin Aquilia Severa . Marrying a vestal virgin is a serious violation of Roman sacred law and religious tradition, because vestals are obliged to preserve their virginity.

- March 15 : Three Kingdoms Period : After the death of Chancellor Cao Cao , his son Cao Pi becomes Duke of Wei and Chancellor.
- December 11 : Cao Pi induces Emperor Xian to abdicate in his favor and declares himself Emperor of the Wei Dynasty . This marks the beginning of the Three Kingdoms era , even if China has been divided for many years.
