- The two usurpers Verus and Gellius Maximus are executed by the Roman emperor Elagabal after a rebellion .

- Time of the Three Kingdoms : The Chinese warlord Liu Bei defeats General Xiahou Yuan in the battle of Mount Dingjun . He occupies the strategically important border town of Hanzhong and proclaims himself King of Hanzhong.
- Battle of Fancheng : Guan Yu , the highest-ranking general Liu Beis, moves against Cao Cao's general Cao Ren in the Fancheng fortress and besieges him unsuccessfully. He is surrounded and isolated by generals of the warlord Sun Quan . In a skirmish he is defeated by General Lü Meng and then beheaded. Sun Quan sends his head to Cao Cao as a gift.
