Ingrid Thulin

Ingrid Lilian Thulin (born January 27, 1926 in Sollefteå , † January 7, 2004 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish actress .

Life

At the age of 17 Ingrid Thulin moved to Stockholm, where she took acting and dance lessons in addition to her work as an office worker. In 1950 she finished her training at the drama school of the Royal Dramatic Theater , where she was subsequently engaged. Director Ingmar Bergman made her known beyond the borders of Sweden with the films Wild Strawberries and The Silence . In 1964, she received the Guldbagge, which was awarded for the first time, as best actress for her performance in Das Schweigen . Together with Bibi Andersson and Liv Ullmann , she was one of the most important actresses in Bergman's films. In total, she made nine films with the director.

This was followed by international cinema productions directed by Alain Resnais and Luchino Visconti . In 1970 she moved to Italy , but continued to play in the theater, in film and on television. She directed Eins und Eins (1977) and Breast Heaven (1982) herself. When she got cancer , she returned to her native Sweden. She died in Stockholm in 2004.

Ingrid Thulin was married to theater director Claes Sylwander from 1952 to 1955 and to Harry Schein , co-founder of the Swedish Film Institute , from 1956 to 1989 .
